Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions.

What does liability coverage includes?

Liability insurance covers legal costs and damage if you cause injury to others or damage their property while operating your yacht.

Is Liability insurance mandatory ?

Requirements vary by region and flag state, but most marinas and countries require at least third-party liability coverage to legally operate your vessel.

Can I get liability coverage for charter or commercial use ?

Yes, liability insurance can be tailored to cover commercial operations, including chartering, with appropriate limits and terms. When chartering, liability from your paying guests increases.

Does liability coverage protect against environmental damage?

Yes, many liability policies include environmental liability to cover pollution or accidental discharge caused by your yacht.

If my vessel sinks or stranded, or damaged beyond repair, it is covered?

If you are legally required to remove the vessel/wreck, this is covered by your liability cover. There is a difference between salvage and removal of wreck. Salvage is typically covered by the hull and machinery section of a policy with removal of wreck being covered by the liability section. If a vessel is not considered a total loss/wreck then the removal of the vessel would be classed as salvage.
